PE-UHMW/PE-1000 Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Polyethylene (PE) is the second most produced thermoplastic material after PVC. PE can be classified into two major categories, by molecular density and by molecular weight. Our PE falls into ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (PE-UHMW), or better known with PE-1000.

In Indonesia market already known PE-HMW or PE-500, even it is not the real PE-500, but mostly PE-HD (High Density Polyethylene) that produced by Asian country. Many engineer thought that PE-HMW or PE-500 is only a half of PE-UHMW in strength differencedownload presentation, but actually PE-UHMW more than ten times tough than PE-500 especially in receiving impact load.

PTFE has a very low coefficient of friction but with low wear resistance, therefore PTFE tends to has a high rate of deterioration. PE-UHMW has a higher coefficient of friction, 0.25 compared to 0.1 of PTFE,but the wear resistance of PE-UHMW is much higher than PTFEdownload presentation. Holding all other factors constant, this difference results in longer life of PE-UHMW applications compared to PTFE.

In terms of weight, PE-UHMW with density only 0.93 g/cm3 is twice as light compared to PTFE with density 1.8 g/cm3. In addition with its high wear resistance compared with PTFE which only half of PE-UHMW, present much longer service operation time and much more economical than PTFE.

PE-UHMW offer solution for special mechanical engineering application that needs excellent sliding properties combine with high wear resistance like hopper lining, conveyor, impact pad, pier protection, which PE-500 and PTFE cannot withstanddownload presentation.
